A government-backed scheme will see the creation of a council responsible for the safety of young people online, reporting directly to the Prime Minister.

The UK Council for Child Internet Safety (UKCCIS) will also introduce specific measures to protect children on the internet, including the removal of offensive websites such as those that promote eating disorders such as anorexia.

Online bullying and violent video games are other areas UKCCIS is responsible for, following a government-commissioned report by Dr Tanya Byron.
